Context 1 Art In Digital Age

The articleThe Work of Art in the Age of Digital Reproduction” written by Douglas Davis mainly discusses the influence of digital technology on artistic creation and art dissemination. The core theme of the essay is that digital technology has revolutionized the way artworks are produced, distributed and consumed. Digital technology allows artists to create in a more efficient and flexible way, and to distribute their work more quickly around the world. Digital technology has also made it easier for audiences to access and consume art, while also opening up new art forms and ways of experiencing it.

Davis mentioned in the article that new tools always stimulate people's imagination rather than rationality. This resolves an important issue that has been troubling me since unit 1, namely, how should students studying traditional arts face the new tools of the information age? I was surprised to discover that, prior to finding an answer to this question, I had consciously or unconsciously been restricting my creative space. This may be due to the drawbacks of the Chinese-style education I received, or perhaps the discomfort brought about by my specialization in printmaking. However, ultimately, it was a result of my mistaken understanding of art. After all, the development of art has never been subordinate to limitations. From that point onwards, I have released myself from self-imposed constraints and embarked on bold experimentation with the mediums and art forms that interest me.
